The Wedding of Britt and Peter, Pyramid Brewery, Berkeley, CA
Every one of my wedding seasons should open up with a woman just like Britt. Seriously. This woman is not your average bear. Have you ever met one of those people with one of those laughs? You know, the kind that just make you smile? Well, this is the girl. But it isn't limited to the laugh. Across the board, she is a trip. Absolutely unique. And lots of fun. From her dress, to her hair, to her choice of venues (a very cool brewery in downtown Berkeley, btw), she was putting her own signature on her day with laughter, taste and an enormous sense of fun. Peter can hold his own in this department, I was soon to discover when I found him packing an action figure around in his breast pocket, and the both of them come by this naturally as their families are downright hilarious. At one point the parents were brought out to dance. The singer, being creative, asked them to switch partners in the middle of the song. The parents switched partners all right, but not exactly in the manner expected. Dad danced with Dad, and Mom danced with Mom. Not to be outdone, the oldest generation was given a chance to demonstrate the sense of humor when grandma and grandpa came up to be acknowledged. Music was there for them, Grandpa stood in his walker and Grandma, in all her glory (the woman looks 50) did ballerina moves and danced around the walker. I can't tell you how it felt to watch this. To me this was love at its best - this is where we are now, and this is how we dance. Not too many people have this kind of longevity in their relationships and it was so nice to see it and when I left, I knew that Britt and Peter had everything it took to really and truly walk hand in hand and grow with each passing year, together. Oh, and by the way? If Marilyn Monroe were to come back as another person - it would be Britt. No contest. I'm hoping to get hired for some anniversary thing with her and do the dress on the vent. Don't care where we have to go. |
| Music by John Butler. Song "Zebra" off the Sunrise Over Sea album. Buy this album people - best music money I've ever spent. |
